A professional who plans and directs statewide program of public health education and promotes establishment of local health services. Responsibilities include:
- Directs workers engaged in preparation and distribution of health information materials, such as brochures, films, weight charts, and first-aid kits.
- Promotes establishment or expansion of local health services and provides technical assistance to individuals and groups conducting (health conferences, workshops, and training courses.
- Answers health information requests received by department or reviews correspondence prepared by others.
- Coordinates special health education campaigns during epidemics, rabies outbreaks, instances of food poisoning, and similar emergencies.
- May direct health education activities in public schools.
