A professional who controls kilns to reclaim char (activated carbon) used in filtering corn syrups. Respnsibilities include:

  • Turns valve to admit gas to kilns.
  • Specifies to bone-char kiln tender temperature to maintain in kiln.
  • Reads pyrometers to verify temperature.
  • Observes operation of char conveyors to prevent spillage.
  • Collects and replaces temperature-recording graphs.
  • Patches flues, plugs up retorts, and replaces broken or worn parts in kiln.
